The eyes are the only organ that allows external visualization of the internal body cavity. As a result, the eyes often exhibit changes based on many non-primary ocular diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, infectious disease, endocrine disease, cancer, or heart disease). Ophthalmology examination along with a minimal database of diagnostic tools (fluorescein stain, Schirmer Tear Test, and Tonometry) are utilized to aid in proper diagnosis and treatment. Below is a list of clinical signs to watch out for:

  • Redness
  • Increased tear production
  • Blinking/Eyelid twitching
  • Mucous discharge
  • Abnormal colored discharge
  • Abnormal color of inside of eye
  • Increased eye size
  • Crying out when touching face
  • Running into things
  • Not eating
  • Not playing
